Patient Perspectives of Rural Kansas Maternity Care

Introduction. Pregnant women in rural areas face a unique set of challenges due to geographic maldistribution obstetric services. The perspectives Kansas were sought regarding experience birth and satisfaction with maternity care. Methods. Medical student research assistants facilitated discussion groups communities who had given the last 24 months. Guiding questions used facilitate discussion. Survey instruments gather information about Data for qualitative quantitative analysis was aggregated using Rural Urban Commuting Area (RUCA) codes. Results. 14 47 total participants completed survey Participants representative variety Large Rural, Small Isolated as described by RUCA Code Four Category Classification. results indicate that care participants’ home county significantly higher compared RUCA. Qualitative show positive experiences related to: doctor characteristics, relationship doctor, doctor’s involvement care, alternative labor options, distance convenience. Negative bedside manner, not there until delivery, staff complaints. Conclusions. Women codes appear be more satisfied contrary previous study findings.
